JDT Beat Port FC 3–0 to Extend Unbeaten Asian Campaign
Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their strong start to the AFC Champions League Elite 2026/27 season with a 3–0 victory over Thailand’s Port FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on 27 October 2026. Three second-half goals secured the Malaysian champions’ second win in the competition.
Jonathan Silva opened the scoring before Bergson Da Silva doubled JDT’s advantage. Substitute Stoichkov then completed the victory late in the match, giving the Southern Tigers another clean sheet in Asia’s premier club competition.
The result moved JDT to seven points from three matches, placing them second in the East Region standings at the time. Nova88 News looks at the key moments from the match.
JDT Break Through After a Goalless First Half
JDT started aggressively in front of their home supporters, creating several opportunities during the opening half. However, Port FC managed to keep the hosts scoreless, and the teams went into the break level at 0–0.
JDT improved their attacking movement after half-time, committing more players forward and using the width of the pitch to create space in the opposition’s defence.
The changes paid off in the 53rd minute when Jonathan Silva volleyed the ball into the net to give JDT the lead.
Bergson and Stoichkov Seal the 3–0 Win
JDT extended their advantage in the 62nd minute. Bergson Da Silva, who came on as a substitute, scored with a header to put the home side firmly in control.
The Brazilian striker was later replaced because of an injury concern. Despite the setback, JDT continued to threaten on the counterattack.
In the 86th minute, Marcos Guilherme and Matías Nahuel combined during a quick attacking move that ended with Stoichkov finding the net. The third goal confirmed JDT’s 3–0 victory over the Thai side.
Xisco Muñoz Highlights JDT’s Tactical Improvements
JDT head coach Xisco Muñoz praised his players’ performance and tactical discipline after the match. The Spanish coach highlighted the team’s ability to adjust its approach after a frustrating first half.
By moving more players into attacking positions and creating opportunities through the flanks, JDT found more ways to break down Port FC’s defence. The second-half display showed how tactical changes can make a difference when a team struggles to convert early chances.
JDT Maintain Their Strong Start in the AFC Champions League Elite
The win over Port FC gave JDT seven points from their opening three league-stage matches. Their results were:
- 15 September: JDT 1–1 Buriram United
- 13 October: Pohang Steelers 0–2 JDT
- 27 October: JDT 3–0 Port FC
JDT had scored six goals and conceded once across those three matches. Consecutive clean sheets against Pohang Steelers and Port FC also provided encouragement for the team’s defensive performance.
The league stage remains a long campaign, so maintaining consistency will be important as JDT pursue qualification for the knockout rounds.
Bergson Injury Concern Ahead of Jeonbuk Match
Although Bergson scored against Port FC, his condition became a concern after he was substituted. Muñoz said the striker had reported discomfort before scoring, and the club was awaiting further medical feedback.
His availability for the upcoming schedule will depend on his recovery. JDT will hope to have their experienced forward available as the team faces another demanding run of fixtures.
JDT Face Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Next
JDT’s next AFC Champions League Elite fixture is an away match against South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on 3 November 2026. The encounter will provide another test of the Malaysian side’s ability to compete against strong opposition in the East Region.
After earning a 3–0 home victory over Port FC, JDT can take confidence from their recent performances. However, the team will need to maintain its discipline and attacking efficiency to secure another positive result.
