Tee Kai Wun Helps Man Wei Chong Regain Confidence

Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair Tee Kai Wun and Man Wei Chong bounced back from a poor result to win the French Open title. A heart-to-heart talk after their Denmark Open exit helped them move forward. The victory also marked their first Super 750 title together.

Kai Wun Talks to Wei Chong After Denmark Open

The Malaysians suffered a first-round exit at the Denmark Open two weeks ago. Kai Wun then decided to speak openly with his partner about their struggles.

“After Denmark, I had a discussion with Wei Chong,” said Kai Wun upon arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday.

The pair had spent several months apart earlier this year. Kai Wun teamed up with other players while Wei Chong recovered from a right knee injury in March.

Kai Wun enjoyed success during that period. He won the Korean Masters title with Yap Roy King in August. However, Wei Chong found it harder to regain his form.

His last title with Kai Wun came at the 2025 Malaysian Masters. The lack of further wins began to affect the 27-year-old’s confidence.

Kai Wun felt his partner needed to change his mindset before they could move forward together.

“I told him that if he wants to win, he has to change his own mindset first. Only then can I help him.”

French Open Title Boosts Their Confidence

The talk seemed to make a difference. The world No. 8 pair went on to win the French Open on Sunday. Their triumph came just two weeks after their disappointing Denmark Open campaign.

Kai Wun admitted that he did not expect such a strong result after their recent struggles.

“We didn’t really expect this because we didn’t play well in Denmark,” Kai Wun admitted.

The 26-year-old hopes the win will help Wei Chong regain his confidence. He also believes the result can give them fresh momentum for the rest of the season.

“I think after this tournament, Wei Chong will regain his confidence.”

Malaysian Pair Prepare for Korean Open

Despite their French Open success, the pair still have challenges to manage. Wei Chong continues to deal with an ongoing injury. Both players must also prepare for a busy schedule ahead.

“We still have three tournaments left to end the year.

“We’ll just try to play our best.”

The Malaysians will next compete at the Korean Open from November 3 to 8. They will aim to carry their winning form into the tournament while managing their fitness.
